Dental Visit at The Learning Experience Hickory Creek, TX
As a pediatric dentist, one of the most rewarding parts of my job is having the opportunity to engage with children outside of the dental office, helping to instill lifelong habits that promote good oral health. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting The Learning Experience daycare in Hickory Creek, Texas, to talk to the children about the importance of good oral hygiene and to demonstrate the proper techniques for brushing and flossing their teeth.

Teaching Kids the Value of Oral Hygiene
We started the session with a lively and interactive discussion about why taking care of our teeth is so important. Using colorful posters, fun props, and age-appropriate language, I explained how our teeth help us chew our food, speak clearly, and, of course, show off our beautiful smiles. We also talked about how sugar and plaque can harm our teeth if we don’t brush and floss properly. The children were full of energy and eager to share their own stories about brushing their teeth at home, which made for a very engaging and interactive session.

Fun Demonstrations with Big Smiles and Big Toothbrushes
Next, I demonstrated the proper way to brush teeth using an oversized model of teeth and a large toothbrush. The children laughed as I showed them how to brush in small circles, making sure to clean all the surfaces of the teeth—including the tricky ones in the back. We also practiced how to floss, which can be a little challenging for tiny hands, but with some fun demonstrations and encouragement, the kids were enthusiastic about giving it a try.

Hands On Learning That Makes a Lasting Impact
One of my favorite parts of the visit was watching the children practice brushing on the model themselves. Many of them took their time carefully moving the brush in circles, just like we had discussed. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Sending Kids Home with Tools to Succeed
Before leaving, I handed out small goodie bags with toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss so they could continue practicing at home.

Building Lifelong Habits, One Visit at a Time
Overall, visiting The Learning Experience in Hickory Creek was a truly meaningful experience. Educating children about dental health in a fun, engaging way helps lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy habits. I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community, one smile at a time.
